On April 25, 2017 the Organizing Committee of the 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians has completed the reception of applications for participation in the competition. Record 650 applicants from 22 countries expressed their desire to participate in the competition, which will be held for the first time in Astana from June 15 to June 25, 2017.
As a result of preliminary live auditions, 120 young musicians from 20 countries were picked for participation: Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Korea, China, Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Mongolia, USA, Canada, Mexico, Israel and Australia. Members of the Artistic Committee of the Competition, who carried out preliminary selection, noted the unprecedented professional level of of young talents.

International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, founded in 1992, is the largest professional competition for young musicians under the age of 17. The competition is held in the three specialties: piano, violin andcello. In 2017, the competition will be held in Astana for the first time. The organizers of the contest are: the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Association of Tchaikovsky Competition Stars. The competition is held within the cultural program of the World Exhibition EXPO-2017.
